Why do some IAS officers take Rs.1 as salary?

 Some Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers choose to take a salary of just one rupee as a symbol of their commitment to public service and as a way to reject the materialism and corruption that can sometimes be associated with government jobs. This is not a mandatory practice and only some officers choose to do this.
